Former Azusa City Mayor Eugene F. Moses started the San Gabriel newspaper on September 1997 as a monthly paper that focuses on features as well as coverage of local government, arts, entertainment and sports.

In addition, the paper has an editorial section, which offers a variety of issues and opinions, including letters to the editor and guest columns by noted local figures.

Moses wanted to continue participating in the activities in the communities even after 30 years of service in the San Gabriel Valley, which included six consecutive terms as mayor of Azusa.
